Advertising Terms and Conditions

Advertising do's and don'ts

We’re committed to upholding the high ethical and best practice standards espoused within the APSO Codes. To this end, we’ve asked our colleagues at the Federation of African Professional Staffing Organisations (APSO) to prepare a list of Do’s and Don’ts to provide you guidance when creating and managing your adverts on our portal. Of course, it goes without saying that all adverts should also strictly comply with prevailing legislation.

Do

  • Ensure that the information contained in your advert is true and correct. Why not check the grammar and spelling while you’re at it? You only get one chance to make a good first impression.
  • Request permission from your client (if you’re not the direct employer) before making use of their name, logo or other brand information in the advert.
  • Remove the advert as soon as the position has been filled or is no longer available.
  • Make your advert as appealing as possible by highlighting the opportunity for your target candidate rather than simply pasting the list of duties.
  • Provide candidates with clear instructions on how to apply, especially if you require them to furnish additional information such as certificates etc.
  • Consider providing an alternative contact method, i.e. phone number, in case the perfect candidate is unable to make use of the online submission.

Dont

  • Include any discriminatory information such as gender, race, sexual orientation, age or comments relating to looks.
*Of course, if the position does have specific inherent job or demographic requirements, that are compliant with the Employment Equity Act, then ensure that this is clearly articulated.
  • Advertise positions that don’t exist in an attempt to “build your database”. If you are simply looking to increase your candidate base, rather have a generic advert that explains that you’d be interested in hearing from candidates with a particular skill for possible future positions.
  • You should always regret applicants as soon as you know they are not suitable or as soon as the position has been filled or is no longer available.
I* t is not acceptable to forward a candidate’s CV without their express permission as this is not only a violation of the APSO Code but it is also not compliant with the Protection of Personal Information Act.

❗️
