Post a Job

Advertise your vacancy to attract Top Talent.

An important element of the hiring process is advertising the vacancy for which you are recruiting.
Posting a great advert that attracts not only the most skilled candidates for your role, but also the right team fit starts with a well scripted job advert.

Post a Job button can be found toward the top right corner of the screen.

The page will open allowing for the completion of the vacancy form. Complete the required information making note of mandatory fields marked with a red asterick as these are mandatory.

It is important to note that the vacancy should not be a “copy and paste” of the job description as per the spec (recruitment agency) or requisition (corporate). A well performing vacancy requires a well written ad, that communicates the responsibility of the candidate in the roles, but also captures their attention and in doing so encourages their application.

Additionally, the vacancy should be detailed enough to provide clarity, but no so long that the candidate experience is impacted by the length of reading the vacancy, or application (see personalised questions below).

Job Ad Title

The Vacancy or Job Ad Title is a mandatory field, indicated by the red asterisks.

This title should be “clean” meaning that it needs to be direct, and should not included information such as location, salary, or other details. Should the job title include this, the additional and unnecessary information will impact the search result when candidates are applying for positions.

For Example, Java Developer
NOT: Java Developer - Sandton - R50k-R60k p/m

Job Title

Concise, and common job titles work best. Do not include salary or location, terms like "ninja", "help wanted" etc.

Searchable Job Titles

Careers24 makes allowance for differing job titles, or related job titles, in the market by allowing recruiters to include these in the vacancy post.

The purpose of this is to give recruiters an expanded reach when advertising, however keeping the audience related and targeted. It is therefore suggested that recruiters be conscious of the suggested job titles included as unrelated titles will increase the number of irrelevant applications.

Additionally, searchable job titles are used in the matching criteria for Suggested/Matched Candidates as well as Jobseekers searching for vacancies to which they are interested in applying.

Reference

The Reference field is not a mandatory requirement. A recruiter can enter their own reference, alternatively Careers24 will allocated a number as the reference which can be used for tracking.

This field is a mandatory requirement for any vacancy going live. There is no character limit on it, and is copy and paste compatible. It is important to note, however, that tables are not supported and therefore if pasted into this field the vacancy will paste with poor formatting.

Job Posting Best Practice dictates:

  1. The opening paragraph is short, catchy and informative as this is the first element the jobseeker will read after the job title. Additionally, this is also the information that will display on the search results page of the job search.
  2. Be clear and concise. Avoid buzz words, acronyms or technical jargon despite how tempting this can be. (Some recruiters use this as a screening tool, however it is unnecessary to do and creates a lower quality ad if done so)
  3. Format the vacancy, using the simple formatting tools included in the job creation form. By bolding, bulleting or numbering, it is easy to make important information stand out for easy reading.
  4. Lastly, do not copy and paste job descriptions!
